Hello All,

Many people on Haphost Forums are well accustomed to the workings and technical side of a VPS, however not all people are.

To help with this here is a list of frequently used Abbreviations,Jargon and its meaning!, if you have any more that are not in the list please send me a PM and it will be added
as soon as i get a chance.

Common Abbreviations:
Abbreviations Non-Abbreviated Versions Meaning VPS Virtual Private Server A Virtual Machine, that runs its own Operating System and has a unique user system and IP address, underlying on physical hardware. CP Control Panel A Panel where numerous things and options can be controlled and configured. DNS Domain Name System Network of Records where a record is assigned to a domain which then can be pointed to resolve as different things. FQDN Fully Qualified Domain Name A domain name that is registered and appears in the host file of a machine, used to gain access and in place of an IP SSH Secure Shell A connection protocol for servers with no physical screen or GUI, can be used to run commands and works in user Sessions. IP Internet Protocol Controlled Numbers used to identify and retrieve information over a certain protocol, assigned to a network router or incoming connection, controlled by IANA SSL Secure Socket Layer A protocol that underlies https IANA Internet Assigned Numbers Authority The company/Organisation in control of assigning IPV4 and IPv6 Addresses to the public and trade. Visit Website FTP File Transfer Protocol A Method of Transferring files from computer to computer or web-host, usually insecure and plain text, common ports are 21 and 25 SFTP Secure File Transfer Protocol A Secure File transfer method, usually used in conjunction with a VPS or other server allowing complete security of file transfer, commonly used over ports 22 and 24 HTTP HyperText Transfer Protocol the most common way of accessing the internet, you will use this method when navigating to a website , allowing transfer of files between you and the server/host. HTTP(S) Secure HyperText Transfer Protocol A Secure version of HTTP, this is commonly assigned to a Socket Layer (SSL) and used to navigate from a secure server webpage.
