Greetings HapHost!

Today I will show you how to run RDP on Debian 6 without any VNC Client

it will work like on windows ;)

so first we Update our OS

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

Now I recommend to install it over the Screen as Installation could take 4 hours

apt-get install screen

now to enter screen type

screen

Now the largest part which could take 2 - 4 hours install Desktop

apt-get install gnome-desktop-environment gdm x-window-system-core desktop-base

*Note if you went off and closed ssh (Putty)  you still can go back to screen by commands

screen -list

Copy the id of it and to resume

screen -r ID HERE

Now after all installed we start our desktop

/etc/init.d/gdm start

now the most important part to get RDP work you need to install XRDP

sudo apt-get install xrdp

After all Installed you can now log in to your RDP from any client and phone or other Devices

Best Regards

try to press CTRL + ALT + F1 then:

sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop (for Gnome)

sudo /etc/init.d/lightdm stop (for Unity)

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

if you wish to backup X so not to worry:

sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup

after all of this start X display:

sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start (for Gnome)

sudo /etc/init.d/lightdm start (for Unity)
